Written Works

  • Creative Nonfiction

I write to tell stories, first and foremost. Lifting minority voices is incredibly important, now more than ever, and I am honored to be able to share my own story and the stories of others in minority communities to show people of all backgrounds that we are here. My own communities are my focus, being disabled and queer myself.

  • Fiction Prose

My short stories lean towards realistic fiction, but I’ve loved fantasy and sci-fi for as long as I can remember. I bring stories of queer and disabled joy to the forefront. I am of the firm belief that we deserve love stories, thrillers, mysteries, and adventures just like anyone else.

  • Poetry

My poetry is a glimpse into my own mind, my mental health, and my emotions. I draw inspiration from slam poetry and public speaking, alongside the page format of Shel Silverstein, to create visually interesting poems with fun wordplay and intentional pauses and breaks.

My name is Nekita, I also go by Nick, and I use he/they pronouns. I have been telling stories for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, around the time kids are taught to write, I learned that I couldn’t hold a pencil properly. It still hurts to hold pens sometimes. But when I gained access to my first computer writing program, I started churning out narratives like there was no tomorrow. Similarly, I have selective mutism, so when I get anxious it’s difficult for me to talk. Now, I read my work across Wisconsin in front of crowds, and I love it. I think the main takeaway from my story is to find what you love and do it lovingly. Writing and speaking saved my life, even though it was hard for me at first. I hope to give a glimmer of that love and hope to someone else.
